HAIL TO THE GOOD LISTENER
By Danish Dance Theater and Marie Topp

Dates:
Takkelloftet Operaen, May 28th – June 1st 2021

Five women move in a meditative-like ’slow-motion’ choreography. Time stands still. The dancers are rocks, they are water. They change and in turn are changed by their surroundings. The five women are fixed, they float – in a field of tension of resistance and surrender. Collectively, they lean towards a common past. They create space for change.

“ Hail to The Good Listener is my version of an ensemble work for Danish Dance Theatre. Together with the dancers I have analyzed the hierarchies and conventions that is embedded in our bodies, with the desire to create a work that can challenge expectations, mirror our times and vibrate with the audience in 2021” Marie Topp

The performance is the last, concluding part of a trilogy of works that examine the complexity of the senses. The first work in the series, Liaisons (2018), addresses the sense of sight. The duet explores potentials and states that arise when the gaze is blurred on the premise that the way we see defines what we see. The solo, Oceanic (2020), is a reflection on listening and the hierarchies of sound. Hail to the Good Listener rounds off this long-standing artistic study of the embedding of political and cultural structures in the senses.
